MPA

Marine Protected Area - a small band-aid to attempt stoppage of the massive hemorrhaging of our fisheries caused by the commercial fishing industry. The MPA's are not a bad idea if they are coupled with a significant harvest reduction for the commercial fishing industry.

Please don't let the commercial fishing industry deplete the natural resource to the point that massive area closures are implemented. A list of area closures near your diving spots can be found at:

JUNE 2001 - REVISED LIST OF AREAS TO CLOSE

The idea that shutting down an area will in itself solve the mis-management problems of the NMFS and SAFMC is ludicrous. We will not stand down while the commercial fishing industry places more restrictions on the recreational angler and incurs no reduction in harvest.

The commercial lobby is attempting to alter public opinion with lies and deceit. The council's that make the decisions are made up primarily of commercial fishermen. They all work together to deplete the resource at an alarming rate, and try to blame the problems on the recreational angler.

We know better. They know better.

The problem is that the recreational angler and diver are lazy. They all hope that someone will do something to preserve their way of life, but they do nothing themselves. It is time to mobilize now, before the fish are all gone.

Get active.

Join the fight.

The only reason the commercial lobby gets it's way is because the recreational fisherman does nothing to show the council that they care. At the last meeting I went to, there were 4 recreational anglers and 200 commercial representatives. They win because of their numbers, not because they have a good plan.

Is your life so important that you can turn your back on what is dear to us all? Please help me fight these bad people who will stop only when the fish are all gone. Give your opinions and voice your displeasure with the corrupt government agencies that have failed for too many years.
