Moose,
Yesterday,
which I'll call Black Tuesday a friend of mine and I enjoyed a few hours on
the water. Being as it was Tuesday we knew the fish would be more abundant
then on the weekend, when they seem to know it time to head from the deaths.
We hit a honey hole and saw lots of snook and tarpon. Then we hit a bluewater
marker in 110 ft. It was blue and teaming with bait fish but no pelegics. So
we moved to the third reef, the vis was still outstanding, I went in first at
a know grouper spot, but I found myself confused because I didn't recognize
the area. After a few minutes I focused on a 15-20 black grouper heading away
from me. I started to pursue, he was cleaver, zig zagging from sand to reef
and he even flushed another grouper from under a ledge. To make a long story
short he and the other evaded me from about a 1/2 hour. Then I saw him again
out away from the ledge and popped him in 52 ft of water. Since it took a lot
of hard work to track and find him before I dispatched him I pet him and
congratulated him on being a worthy opponent. Later I weight him in at 15 lbs.
I
began to drift the ledge in 50 -55 ft. and was slightly over the sand when I
saw a pair of table shaped rocks coming up I could see that the second rock
had relief under it and decided to take a look. After breathing up I dove down
and about half way down a grouper decided to come out from under that rock but
he was to late my Daryl Wong gun was already aimed at that very spot and
before he could return to the safety of his house, he received a shaft thru
his gill plate. About 15 minutes later I recovered him after getting a second
kill gun and untangling the line off the bottom. Later weighted in at 21
lbs.
All
in all it was a good day. It was a good prep. day for the nationals, in which
I will be competing in on the 19th of July in Tarpon Springs. The Longfins
will be sending two teams, I am on Team #1.
